Michael Psellus
Michael Psellus (or Michael Psellos) was an XIth century Byzantine philosopher,
politician, and historian. Considered one of the formost intellectuals of his
time, he was awarded the title "Consul of the Philosophers" by imperial decree.
He served as close advisor to several emperors, but is best known for his historical
work on fourteen Bysantine rulers, the “Chronographia”. His style was original for his
time, as he was putting the emphasis not merely on the recollection of events, but on their careful analysis.
